Becoming A Patient With Veritas
The evaluation process for low testosterone is easy. Here is what to expect:
Step – 1
Blood is drawn

After you contact us, you can either come to our clinic or go to LabCorp to have your blood drawn. You can go to any LabCorp you like. You can even book a LabCorp appointment online. Your blood will be screened for a complete hormone profile as well as markers of common health problems such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and heart disease.

Step – 2
Review the results

After the results are received the specialist will review them with you and recommend possible treatments. This is  a chance to become familiar with our testosterone optimization process and have all your questions answered. You will have a full understanding of your treatment plan and you will be able to start therapy shortly after you decide on your treatment path.

step- 3
Start your treatment

Your specialist will show you how to do the treatments on your own. The process is simple and easy. After about a month, you will go back to LabCorp to have your blood drawn again. This allows us to fine tune your dose. You will then come back to the clinic to meet with the specialist and review your progress.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Who should be screened for low testosterone?

If you have any of the common symptoms of low testosterone (fatigue, low libido, erectile problems, difficulty concentrating, trouble sleeping, low mood, etc.) you should absolutely get your levels checked.  There is no harm in finding out what your levels are.

Even if you don’t have any symptoms we believe every man should have their testosterone levels checked and rechecked every 5-7 years.  That way you will know what your levels were when you felt good and how they are trending.  This can also aid in the diagnosis of low testosterone in the future.

What if I am already receiving testosterone from another clinic but I want to transfer my care to the Veritas Clinic?

We can easily accommodate you.  We will just need a few things:

  1. Your most recent blood work results, from your clinic.  (We expect your T levels will be in the high – normal range and there is no need to go off testosterone)
  2. Your medication dosages and frequency.  (For example: HCG 400 IU twice per week or Testosterone 100 mg injected twice per week)
  3. OPTIONAL: Your original blood work that qualified you for testosterone therapy (if you have it).  This is helpful for us to have, but not absolutely necessary.

How long is the initial visit?

The initial visit is typically about 30-40 minutes, depending upon how many questions you have.  We never want you to feel rushed, so we allot a full hour to be sure all of your questions are answered and you feel comfortable with the process.  We also want you to have a good understanding of the risks and benefits of testosterone replacement therapy.

Is there any charge for the initial consult and blood work?

There is no charge for the initial consultation with the clinician.  We do charge a discounted rate for the comprehensive blood panel, which is $125.  The fee for blood work will be due at the time of the consultation, not when your blood is drawn.

Why do you charge for blood work when other clinics offer a free evaluation?

Free evaluations are a double edged sword.  On one hand there is no financial commitment from you.  On the other, you often get what you pay for.

A comprehensive blood panel is the most critical step in evaluating your testosterone deficiency.  In our experience, clinics that offer free low T evaluations will only obtain the minimal amount of blood work.  Unfortunately, they are only interested in qualifying you for testosterone therapy while minimizing their cost. We believe this is not in your best interest for the following reasons:

  1. You deserve to understand the root cause of your low testosterone.  This can only be obtained through a comprehensive blood panel.  Once the cause of  your low T has been determined we can suggest treatment options specific for you.  This is especially important for younger patients, who may be candidates for alternative treatments other than replacing their testosterone.
  2. Every man has unique biochemistry.  Without comprehensive blood work, your provider is guessing at your dose and has no idea how your body will process or react to testosterone.  The more information we gather up front, the more precise we can be with your dose and treatment schedule.
  3. Testosterone has many different effects on the body.  Almost every cell in the body has a receptor for testosterone.  As a result, the body reacts in complex ways.  Only a thorough blood panel allows us to be sure that you are using testosterone in a safe and sustainable way.  Our goal is always to improve health and avoid the complications that can come with TRT.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept insurance at this time, for the following reasons:

1 – We strive to provide the most competitive pricing in the industry.  Insurance adds unnecessary cost and red tape to the process.  Since our pricing is reasonable we have found that the vast majority of our patients typically save money by avoiding insurance.

2 –  Most insurance companies have very strict guidelines that you must meet before they will consider covering the cost.  These requirements are unnecessarily strict and typically disqualify most men from receiving TRT, since their testosterone levels are not considered  “low enough”.  We do not believe insurance companies have men’s best interest in mind when they created these rules.  Unfortunately, they do not realize the long-term benefits and eventual cost-savings if they allowed men to receive testosterone therapy, without such severe restrictions.

3 – Insurance companies will limit the type of testosterone you can use.  We have worked hard to provide our patients the highest quality testosterone products, that have been independently tested for purity and strength.  We do not believe in risking our patient’s health to comply with the insurance company’s wishes.

** We can provide billing summaries that you can submit to your insurance, which may count toward your deductible. It is up to you to contact and discuss this with your health insurance company.  We cannot contact the insurance company for you.

Do I need to fast before the blood test?

No, you do not need to fast before your test.  We do recommend that you drink plenty of water so you are well hydrated.

Can you tell me more about the blood work you will perform?

The initial blood work is critical in order to design an effective treatment regimen for low testosterone.  Our battery of tests allow us to determine the root cause of your low testosterone.  Our goal is to understand where the problem lies.  We then suggest therapies based on what is actually causing the problem.  In some instances men do not need to be on testosterone at all.  In others, testosterone replacement therapy is suggested.  Our comprehensive blood panel also allows us to understand how you will process testosterone so we can design a program around your unique biochemistry.  This is where most other clinics fall short.

We also perform screening tests for common problems such as heart disease and diabetes.  Our goal is to be sure that our patients stay healthy.

For specific information on what blood markers we may obtain check out our post:  How is Low Testosterone Diagnosed?

Do you offer saliva testing for low T?

Some clinics will offer saliva testing to evaluate for low T.  While this does avoid a blood draw, saliva testing is still fairly new and may have inaccuracies.  Our thorough analysis requires that we draw a few tubes of blood in order to get the most accurate results.

Do I have to inject myself?

We offer two methods of testosterone replacement therapy: injections and topical creams.

If you choose to do injections then you will have to learn the self injection technique. While this may seem intimidating at first, the majority of men get used to the process quickly. We do not inject into the muscle. We use tiny needles (similar to insulin needles) to inject the medication into the fat. This has shown to be a superior method to intramuscular injection for several reasons. First, there is much less pain. Second, there is no trauma to the muscle tissue. Third, subcutaneous injections are processed more easily by the body.

If you are having a difficult time injecting yourself, you specialist can perform the injection for you for the first few weeks until you get used to the process.  After a few injections patients are easily able to perform injections on their own.

If you feel that injections are not right for you, then we recommend you use our topical testosterone cream. Our testosterone cream has shown to provide the same blood levels as injected testosterone, without the need for injections. The cream has to be applied daily for the best results. The downside to creams is that they an be transferred to others if you are not careful. Washing your hands after application is a must.
